Join host Sidney Chen for a series of conversations with composers about their sources for inspiration, what lights the creative spark, and how they choose which techniques in their compositional toolbox to use. Through talking with the creators themselves, we unlock the ideas behind the music of they write, and learn how they draw sounds from silence.

Sidney Chen is passionate about supporting the creation of new artistic work — as a performer, a writer, and an administrator. His performance projects center on contemporary music in new forms, from serialized podcast operas to musical dramas with laptop orchestras. He has toured internationally with Meredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble. At home in San Francisco, he's the Artistic Advisor for the new-music chamber chorus Volti. For two decades Sidney managed artistic projects for the Kronos Quartet. He was a Regional Editor for the web magazine NewMusicBox, and wrote the pioneering classical music blog The Standing Room.
